AUSTRALIA / SOUTH AUSTRALIA / S.A.

1872 2d orange-red Queen Victoria, V crown watermark (= SG type W7), perf. 10:10, overprinted P.S. (= Private Secretary), used – no thins, tears or bends.

This stamp has exactly the same cancellation – GPO Adelaide 14 MY 1874 – as the example that was sold in the Abacus Auctions' Dr. Don Pearce sale of SA Departmental Overprints in 2022, lot # 605 which realised $480 + add-ons. This also shows that the shade is orange-red and not brick-red as listed in the Stanley Gibbons catalogue.

SG Cat. # DO442a
