1854 4d pale blue Swan, imperforate, sideways swan watermark, has the variety ‘the Swan has an eye’ (position 155 in the sheet = row 8, stamp 15), unused – without gum, no thins, tears or bends.
This position also has the following plateable features : an inward curve in the lower frame (one of the so-called 'creased transfers') which has caused the R of FOUR and PE of PENCE to be shorter than normal. There is also a small tick of colour projecting from the lower frame between the letters F and O. Not listed in SG, but is a significant flaw, varieties of a similar magnitude have a catalogue value of £3000+ for unused.
